- Why is my photo sideways after rotating it?
- It is usually EXIF orientation. Phone cameras store the rotation as a flag rather than turning the pixels, so rotating on top of a flag the viewer already applied doubles the turn.
- Does rotating reduce quality?
- A 90 or 180 degree turn is a pure pixel rearrangement, so nothing is lost beyond re-encoding. Arbitrary angles such as 7 degrees need interpolation and do soften detail.
- What is the difference between flip and rotate?
- Flipping mirrors the image across an axis, so left becomes right. Rotating turns it around the centre, which means a 180 degree rotation is not the same as a vertical flip.
- Which way up should a scanned page be?
- Read the text, not the image. A scan rotated to make the text run left to right is correct even if any artwork in it then looks sideways.
