Frequently asked questions

Is Temperature Converter free to use?
Yes. Temperature Converter is available on the free plan with 20 daily runs. Paid plans add higher quotas for repeat work.
Is there a quick way to convert Celsius to Fahrenheit in my head?
Double the Celsius figure and add 30. Twenty degrees becomes about 70 Fahrenheit against the exact 68, which is close enough for weather but not for cooking or anything that has to be precise.
Why does the Celsius to Fahrenheit conversion need an offset and not just a multiplier?
Because the two scales start at different points and use different degree sizes. Water freezes at 0 Celsius and 32 Fahrenheit, and one Fahrenheit degree is five ninths of a Celsius degree, so the conversion has to scale and shift.
Can a temperature be below zero Kelvin?
No. Kelvin starts at absolute zero, the point at which no thermal energy is left to remove, which is about minus 273.15 Celsius; a negative Kelvin result almost always means a sign error in the input.
Is 98.6 Fahrenheit exactly the same as 37 Celsius?
It is a rounded conversion of it. Normal body temperature varies between people and through the day by roughly a degree Fahrenheit, so treat both figures as a reference point rather than a fixed threshold that settles whether something is wrong.
