Frequently asked questions

Is Image Sharpen free to use?
Yes. Image Sharpen is available on the free plan with 20 daily runs. Paid plans add higher quotas for repeat work.
How do I know if I have sharpened too much?
Look at a hard edge such as a roofline against sky. Over-sharpening leaves a bright or dark outline along the edge and makes noise in flat areas more visible.
Can sharpening fix an out-of-focus photo?
Not really. It raises local contrast along edges and cannot recover detail that was never in focus, so a slightly soft image benefits far more than a badly blurred one.
Should I sharpen before or after resizing?
After. Resizing softens the picture, so sharpening first means you sharpen detail you are about to throw away and then resize the halos with it.
Why does sharpening make my photo grainy?
It amplifies whatever is already in the pixels, including sensor noise and JPEG artefacts. Starting from a cleaner source helps more than dialling the setting down.
