Frequently asked questions
- Is Image Sharpen free to use?
- Yes. Image Sharpen is available on the free plan with 20 daily runs. Paid plans add higher quotas for repeat work.
- How do I know if I have sharpened too much?
- Look at a hard edge such as a roofline against sky. Over-sharpening leaves a bright or dark outline along the edge and makes noise in flat areas more visible.
- Can sharpening fix an out-of-focus photo?
- Not really. It raises local contrast along edges and cannot recover detail that was never in focus, so a slightly soft image benefits far more than a badly blurred one.
- Should I sharpen before or after resizing?
- After. Resizing softens the picture, so sharpening first means you sharpen detail you are about to throw away and then resize the halos with it.
- Why does sharpening make my photo grainy?
- It amplifies whatever is already in the pixels, including sensor noise and JPEG artefacts. Starting from a cleaner source helps more than dialling the setting down.
