Frequently asked questions
- Is Text Cleaner free to use?
- Yes. Text Cleaner is available on the free plan with 20 daily runs. Paid plans add higher quotas for repeat work.
- Will it reformat code or poetry?
- It will, and usually not the way you want: runs of spaces become a single space, which flattens indentation and aligned columns. Use the remove blank lines tool instead when empty lines are the only problem.
- Does it fix smart quotes and odd characters?
- Not all of them. Whitespace of every kind, including the non-breaking spaces that arrive with copy from a PDF, becomes an ordinary single space, while curly quotes and other stray characters stay as they are.
- Does it tell me what it changed?
- Yes. It reports the blank lines removed, how many lines had their spacing normalised, and the character count of the cleaned result.
- Is it worth cleaning text pasted from a PDF?
- Yes, because PDF copy-paste brings hard line breaks and uneven spacing. Check the result for words that were split across lines in the original and are now joined without a space.
